Craftsman Style Doors

this entry has 1 Comment/ in Good To Know, Style and Home / by Danielle

The original Craftsman or Arts and Craft style homes were built  in Vancouver from 1905 to 1930, strongly influenced by the British art and crafts movement,  as well as the popular house plans of the Greenes in California.

Arts and Crafts Style homes had these easily recognizable characterisits:

  • Wood, stone, or stucco siding
  • Low-pitched roof
  • Wide eaves with triangular brackets
  • Exposed roof rafters
  • Porch with thick square or round columns
  • Stone porch supports
  • Exterior chimney made with stone
  • Open floor plans; few hallways
  • Numerous windows
  • Some windows with stained or leaded glass
  • Beamed ceilings
  • Dark wood wainscoting and moldings
  • Built-in cabinets, shelves, and seating

Today this style is enjoying a resurgence of popularity with new builds incorporating many of these features.  With good reason, the craftman style door is one of Vancouver’s most popular styles.  They are very handsome and suit our style of house perfectly.

This article from Houzz.com shows some great examples of these terrific doors.  http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/1722354/list/Craftsman-Front-Doors-Make-an-Entrance”>Craftsman

If you are looking for a new front door, House of Doors carries a number of Craftsman style doors with prices starting as low as $660.  Most paneled doors with lites can have a dentil shelf added to give it the craftsman door look.

Give us a call if a Craftsman is in your future !
